I’ve never been able to easily remove that sticky residue left behind from labels or price tags. It always involves a lot of hot water, soap and elbow grease. I’ve looked up different suggestions, which range from vinegar, oil, rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. I haven’t found any of these suggestions to be any easier than scrubbing with soap and hot water. Then I saw this very odd suggestion and had to try it! I have such a long to-do list today that I will take any short cut I can find. I have two pails with stickers across the front. I am using them as serving bowls for my daughter’s pool party tomorrow so I want them to be spotless!
I quickly peeled off what I could and got ready for this “miracle” residue remover…
Its peanut butter! Crazy, right? Well I had some in the house and the other cleaners never work, so why not?! I spread some over the sticker and let sit for about 30 minutes, which was when I had a moment to resume cleaning the buckets.
I wiped and scrubbed with paper towel, then I rinsed. It really didn’t look any different, so I decided this was a FAIL. I looked online to see if I did something wrong. Here is what I gathered. You must remove all of the sticker. I did not. Often, after you’ve removed the sticker and scrubbed with hot water and soap, there is still sticky residue left behind. You know how it looks clean but you can feel the grit or the area starts attracting dirt and looks grimy.
This is where the peanut butter comes into play. Cover the residue with peanut butter and let sit 10-15 minutes. You should now be able to wipe it clean. After I scraped off the rest of the label, I tried this again, the right way, and it worked! I used a paper towel and the residue wiped right off. This should be even easier on glass than these plastic pails.
TIP Tested: SUCCESS!
