I’ve never gone for a microdermabrasion treatment. Wanted to, needed to, but couldn’t bring myself to spend the $150 to try it. I was talking to a friend about cleaning with baking soda and she mentioned that it could be used for a home microdermabrasion treatment. She said that you mix a couple of tablespoons of baking soda with just enough apple cider vinegar to make a paste. Apply in a circular motion on face and throat, avoiding the eye area. Let sit for a few minutes, then rinse.
I took a nice long bath today and decided to try it out. I admit that I couldn’t be bothered to look for my cider vinegar so I used a few drops of white vinegar that I already had in my bathroom. It began foaming immediately and I applied to my face and neck. I let it sit for about 5 minutes while I soaked. It was burning tingling a bit. I rinsed and my skin instantly felt smooth and firm. Like with a salon treatment, my skin was a bit red. This lasted about half an hour, then I was back to normal.
I am pretty happy with the result and I will do this every week or two from now on. I read up on this afterwards and found that you can make this mask with:
- 2-3 TBSP Baking Soda
- 1-2 TSP Water
I think next time I will try the water instead of the vinegar. Maybe my skin won’t turn as red.

I use a facial scrub from the 99cent store, and it works pretty smooth, but who knows what’s in it? will definitely try this idea tonight!
