Book Page Easter Eggs

Book Page Easter Eggs
Book Page Easter Eggs
Last year I saw some pricey book page ornaments on Etsy and thought, “I could make that!” I used old, discolored glass ornaments and I repurposed them into new ones.  Each year, Easter seems to sneak up on me.  I was in my garage looking for my Easter decorations when I came across the box that held the Christmas ornaments I made. Suddenly it occurred to me that I could do the same with Easter eggs too!

Supplies:
  • Plastic or Paper Mache Eggs
  • Mod Podge
  • An old book
  • Fine Translucent Glitter (Or Krylon Glitter Spray)
  • Paint brush for applying Mod Podge

I pulled out some mod podge, eggs, a book and glitter spray.  (If you don’t have Mod Podge, you can easily make your own by mixing equal parts of Elmer’s glue and water.  This will save you about $6.)  Cut or tear strips of the pages and start glueing them to the egg.  Once completely covered you can sprinkle on fine translucent glitter or once dry, use glitter spray.  I used Krylon Glitter spray, available at your local craft store.

I only made two and, honestly, it wasn’t as easy as the ornaments.  I had a harder time with the contours of the egg and the overlapping was thicker than I anticipated.  Still, they turned out ok.  I spoke to an associate at the craft store and she suggested that I try using paper mache eggs.  I think it was a bag of 6 for $3.99. Next time I will go that route.

Book Page Easter Egg Supplies

Here is a couple of variations:

Child Theme: Use pages from a children’s Easter book, Velveteen Rabbit or Peter Rabbit book.  How cute would that be?!

Religious Theme: Use Bible pages.  You can pick one up at the Dollar store and make “Scripture Eggs”.

If you prefer not to use book pages, this could possibly work with some wrapping papers, several layers of tissue paper and maybe some thinner scrapbook paper. If you are using tissue paper, be careful with the amount of Mod Podge, as it could tear and clump the paper if you use too much.

I bet you could use scraps of delicate fabric as well. The possibilities are endless!

This is a great idea. Reading your post I realized, I don’t have ANY Easter decorations except some dish towels with bunnies on them, and one bunny-shaped plate. This needs to be remedied. This could be a really fun activity to do with my husband’s girls the next time they’re staying with us, and I am so bookmarking this for that purpose!

Thanks Kim! It is simple enough that I find myself often thinking of other things I can make.

What a great idea! I don’t usually decorate for Easter but now that the cold mess of a winter we had is coming to an end, I’m feeling in the mood to liven things up a bit.

Thank you Yanique. I don’t do a lot of Easter decorating, but I feel like it brings a little “Spring” in our home!
