We have a deal. I usually have the final say on item placement on the inside of the house and my husband gets final say on the garage. It usually is a really good deal for me, but here is one battle I LOST. Moving to California can easily cause one to downsize, since it costs so much for such a small place. Many things had to go, except the “big TV”. There were very limited places to put it, so we had no choice but to have it mounted above the fireplace. Normally, this can be on ok option, but not in this particular house. The fireplace wall is angled and small. Plus, the mantel is practically non-existant. The biggest challenge aside from feeling like there is a “jumbotron” in my small family room, is the lack of space to put the “boxes”, as in X-Box, Cable Box and Blue-Ray player. I lost out on this too. This is what I have to pretend that I don’t notice. Or hate.
Decorating an Ugly Fireplace for Halloween
Yes, I think the neighbors behind us can easily watch our tv if they wanted to.
Decorating the mantel is impossible. I’m lucky to find places for our Christmas Stockings here. I finally came up with a fairly acceptable way to decorate this area for Halloween, drawing attention away from the ugliness and toward the actual fireplace. Yes, you still see the unsightly boxes, but notice how your eye is drawn more to the fireplace than the mantle.
I printed the letters in a fairly large size, cut them out, then backed them onto some spider web scrapbook paper, using ZOTS glue dots. The spiders came from a discounted pack of Martha Stuart Craft silhouettes. After the sale at Michaels, they came out to be $1.99 for a pack of 10. The glitter pumpkins were $1 ea at the Dollar Spot at Target. Scrapbook paper was on sale for .25ea this week. In total, this cost me about $5.50. Not bad and I think it looks so much better than before.
Wow, I’m on a roll! Second time this week the “uncrafty” got crafty! I wonder what’s next???

Do you still have this setup? If so, we have a solution that will work for you and your hubby. We have a line of mounts that will allow you to mount all of those components behind your TV. Then, you can have your mantle back and only have to see the TV. 🙂

No, fortunately we don’t! We moved last year and have a completely different set up now, but thanks!

Definitely it’s looks nice than it was before.
Spending 5.50 is not a huge investment, but the come out is hugeeee 🙂
