I keep seeing donuts made from canned biscuits on Pinterest. Though I’ve never been a big fan of donuts, my family is. I decided to try making some as a special treat this weekend. One reason I never loved donuts is because they are fried. For this reason I don’t care for zeppoles, funnel cakes, churros or any other fried dough dessert. I searched recipes until I found one that I could bake instead of fry. You can find the actual recipe I found HERE. But I almost always adapt recipes to whatever I have on hand or easier for me.
Baked Pumpkin Spice Donuts
- 1 Can Pillsbury Grand Biscuits
- 1/2 Stick Butter, melted
- 3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1-2 TBSP Pumpkin Pie Spice (Or make your own using this recipe)
Preheat oven to 350deg.Remove biscuits from packaging and using a small round cookie cutter, remove inner circle to create a “donut”. I used a mini flower shaped cutter from a Pampered Chef set that I own. This makes 10 donuts and 10 donut holes.
Melt better and allow to cool for a few minutes. Try not to let it boil. Place it in a small bowl that a donut will fit in. Combine sugar and pumpkin pie spice in a separate bowl until well blended.
Dip each donut/donut hole in the butter first, then roll them in the sugar mixture. Place onto cookie sheet or baking stone. Bake 10 minutes. Allow to cool about 10 minutes before serving.
I opted to ice the donuts. I mixed about 4 TBSP of whipped cream cheese with a sprinkle of cinnamon and about 1 TSP of powdered sugar. Then I just spread some on while the donuts were still very warm.
Everyone loved the donuts. (Including me!) They were so easy and tasted similar to a cinnamon roll. I would make this again for another special treat. Even if you’re really not a baker, this is {simple} enough to make.
